Hanuman known also as ‘Anjaneya’ (son of Anjana), is one of the most important personalities in the Indian epic, the Ramayana. He is a vanara who aided Lord Rama (an avatar of Vishnu) in rescuing his wife, Sita from the Rakshasa king Ravana.

Birth Hanuman was born in the Treta Yuga, to Anjana, a female vanara. Anjana was actually an apsaras or a celestial being, named Punjikasthala, who, due to a curse, was born on the earth as a female vanara. The curse was to be removed upon her giving birth to an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

Along with Kesari, Anjana performed intense prayers to Shiva to beget Him as her Child. Pleased with their devotion, Shiva granted them the boon they sought.

Different stories are told as to Hanuman’s birth. One is that at the time that Anjana was worshipping Lord Shiva, elsewhere, Dasaratha, the king of Ayodhya, was performing the Putrakama Yagna in order to have children. (more…)

Synopsis The movie tells the story of Raj Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan), his wife Pooja (Hema Malini) and their four sons Ajay (Aman Verma), Sanjay (Samir Soni), Rohit (Saahil Chadda), and Karan (Nasir Khan). Raj and Pooja have provided their children with countless amenities that most children don’t experience.

Also fitting into the story is Alok (Salman Khan), and his fiancee Arpita (Mahima Chaudhary) (in special appearances). Alok was an orphan and Raj had provided him with money and education. Now a successful man, Alok worships Raj because of all his help.

Raj has a flourishing job as an ICICI employee, but once he retires, he and Pooja decide to live with their kids to get their love. One problem–their kids don’t want them. This is where the story takes a sharp turn; the children decide to split the parents up and for 6 months they will live with two of the four sons and for the next 6 months they will live with their third and fourth sons. Badal is a 2000 Bollywood movie directed by Raj Kanwar. The film stars Bobby Deol and Rani Mukerji in lead roles. The movie is set in 1984 when riots were engulfing parts of Punjab and Delhi.

Synopsis The police are swarming the city looking for terrorists. One such terrorist is Mantavir (Aashish Vidyarthi). Who takes shelter in Badal’s house, with his family. In return he is treated like a brother, by Badal’s father (Alok Nath). However eventually the police arrive in the village in search of Mantavir. Badal’s father tells him to run away and gives him some food as well. Mantavir manages to escape.

However, Badal (Bobby Deol) sees his own family and the villagers being wiped out in a shooting encounter with Police Inspector Jai Singh Rana (Ashutosh Rana). Badal is saved by Mantavir who also witnesses the massacre. Years later, Badal becomes a dreaded terrorist and loots a bank.

He is instructed to take the booty to Sundar Nagar where he comes into contact with a good natured police officer, Ranjeet Singh (Amrish Puri). He takes refuge in Ranjeet Singh’s house, but his aim remains to kill the treacherous police officer who had killed his parents and his loving sister. (more…)

An unstable Rukmini, who owes money to Monty, decides she cannot go it alone and concocts a scheme that will force Padmini to give up on Raghu and re-join forces with her to go on philandering unsuspecting wealthy men. Meanwhile a man called Jhunjhunwala and another man go to Badshah with a strange case. Jhunjhunwala claims that he is dying with cancer and wants to see his daughter married to the man before he dies. She however is refusing and hence he wants Badshah’s help. Badshah takes the case and solves the case in a comic style.

Badshah acts as a blind man and gains the sympathy of Sonia (Twinkle Khanna), who according to Jhunjhunwala is his daughter. Then he undergoes a phony eye operation setup by himself and his gang of guys in a hilarious backdrop. After many years of studying abroad, Avinash announces that he is returning home. Soon, Malvika “Milli” Talwar (Rani Mukerji) enters his life. Awara Paagal Deewana (English: Wayward, Crazy and Insane) is a 2002 Bollywood action comedy directed by Vikram Bhatt. The film is a remake of the American film The Whole Nine Yards. The film’s music was written by Anu Malik, and the lyrics by Sameer.

Synopsis The film centres on the legacy of a dead Indian underworld don (Om Puri), who dies of a heart attack at the beginning of the film. He leaves diamonds worth $10bn at the New York Bank, to be distributed equally between his son Vikrant, his daughter Preeti, and Preeti’s husband Guru. To claim the diamonds, all three benefactors must be present at the bank, or, if dead, their death certificates must be presented. Shortly after the Don’s death, Vikrant attempts to eliminate Guru by assassinating the Indian Home Minister in full view of television cameras while disguised as him. Guru flees to the US to escape prosecution.

The middle of the film is predominantly a comedy, broken up by the obligatory Bollywood song and dance routines; however, the beginning and end are characterised by several martial arts fights, including some use of wire-fu, and the film has an explosive climax typical of action films. As well as taking its plot from The Whole Nine Yards, the film lifts almost the entire lobby scene from The Matrix virtually bullet-for-bullet (minus Trinity’s part). (more…)

Plot The story opens against the backdrop of idyllic hilly terrain with airforce officer Arun (Rajesh Khanna) crooning “Mere sapno ki rani” atop an open jeep, while Vandana (Sharmila Tagore) demurely sneaks glances at him from a mini train. After a brief romance, they have a secret wedding.

Soon afterwards, Arun dies in an air crash leaving behind a heartbroken and pregnant Vandana. His family refuses to accept the unwed mother-to-be since her marriage with Arun is never formalised.
